Enlarging Croft Land
Enlargement of a croft is the term used where the owner of land which is neither a croft or a Common Grazings, nor forms part of a croft or a Common Grazings, agrees to grant a tenancy of that land to a crofter. It is important before you apply to check that the extent of the croft, after the non-croft land is added, does not substantially exceed 30 hectares.

Enlargement of Crofts - Section 4 of the Crofters (Scotland) Act 1993
A straightforward approval can be made if:
- The enlargement will be of benefit to the croft
- The enlargement will be of benefit to the crofter
- The enlargement will not create any access issues
- The tenant is complying with their statutory duties
- The area of the enlarged croft will be less than 36 hectares
If any of these conditions are not met, the application will be escalated.
Please ensure you submit your Registers of Scotland (RoS) Registration Application form along with your application, if required.
Please note that when you are completing the Registration Application for RoS you are required to advise them of persons who own/occupy any adjacent croft or land, as our ROC is not mapped based the Commission cannot assist you with this information.
