Advertising your croft application

Sometimes we will ask applicants to place a notice in a local newspaper. This tells others about the changes you want to make to your croft.

Which applications must be advertised?

You must place a notice if you are applying for:

A notice is also required when a new grazings committee is being appointed.

We will place a notice for applications involving decrofting and creating new crofts after the application is found to be valid.

When to advertise

  • For apportionment applications: You must wait until we tell you to place the notice.
  • For all other applications listed above: Publish your notice no earlier than one month before you apply and no later than two months after you apply.
  • For a new grazings committee: We recommend you publish the notice 10 days before the committee meeting.

Where to place a notice

We have a list of approved newspapers for each area. You can find the right one below. To find your croft’s parish, check your croft record in the register of crofts. If you want to use a newspaper not on our list, you must contact us first.
