The Crofting Commission offices will be closed on Monday 4 May for the bank holiday. We will reopen as normal on Tuesday 5 May. Digital services remain available online.

The Crofting Commission is today issuing a final reminder to all crofters that the deadline for submitting their Annual Notice is 6 April 2026.

The Crofting Commission has today announced that more than half of Scotland’s crofters have already submitted their mandatory 2025 Annual Notice. While the Commission welcomes this strong early response, it is issued a firm reminder to those who have yet to submit: the deadline of 6th April 2026 is fast approaching.

The Crofting Commission is reaching out to the Shetland crofting community to clarify the purpose of the Annual Notice and to reassure crofters that fulfilling this legal duty is a quick, simple and free process. Following a recent article in The Shetland Times, the Commission wishes to provide factual clarity and a postive path forward for all crofters.

We are hosting a series of public meetings throughout the crofting counties this Winter 2026 to provide essential information and guidance for our crofting communities. These sessions are designed to walk you through the Annual Notice process, explain the statutory duties of a crofter, and provide a dedicated Crofting Q&A to address general queries

Our phoneline will be open on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd December from 9.00am to 4.30pm. 

The phoneline will be closed on Wednesday 24th December until Monday 5th January, when it will re-open at 9.00am. Great Glen House will be closed during this period.

Although our phoneline is closed, it is still possible to submit online applications or send emails to us during the festive period.
