Creating a New Common Grazing

New grazings

A new common grazings cannot be created if the land:

  • is tenanted or occupied by a cottar
  • borders or shares a boundary with a croft
  • is already registered as a croft

Registering grazings

Registers of Scotland keeps a public register of crofts, common grazings and land held runrig.

To date, over 300 common grazings have been registered. We are working with grazings committees and landlords to move forward with more registrations.

For questions about common grazing registration, you can email us at grazings.register@crofting.gov.scot
