Crofting Commission Launches New ‘Alerts Service’ to Keep Communities Informed
The Crofting Commission has today, Wednesday 10th of December 2025, announced the launch of a new Alerts Service on its refreshed website, designed to make it easier for crofters and the wider public to stay informed about changes in their local area.
The new feature allows anyone—from active crofters and Grazings Clerks to those simply interested in the future of crofting—to sign up for automated email notifications regarding regulatory applications submitted to the Commission.
Previously, keeping track of new applications for assignations, decrofting, or divisions required users to manually check the Commission’s registers. The new Alerts Service simplifies this process, allowing users to subscribe to specific Parishes.
This update reflects the Commission’s commitment to transparency, ensuring that communities are aware of proposed changes to land use and tenure as they happen.
While the service is available to everyone, it is expected to be a particularly valuable resource for Grazings Clerks. By subscribing to alerts for their specific parish, clerks can receive immediate updates on applications that may impact their Common Grazings, helping to simplify the management of shareholdings and committee records.
Gary Campbell, Chief Executive of the Crofting Commission, commented:
“We want to make it as easy as possible for people to engage with the regulatory process. Whether you are a Grazings Clerk managing committee business, a crofter keeping an eye on local developments, or a neighbour interested in land use, having the right information at the right time is crucial.
“This Alerts Service removes the need to constantly search for updates. By delivering information directly to people’s inboxes, we hope to develop better awareness and give communities the opportunity to engage with applications that matter to them.”
How to Sign Up The Alerts Service is available now. Users can visit the Applications and Notifications section of the Crofting Commission website, filter by their chosen Parish, and click the “Subscribe” button to begin receiving updates.
