Response
Since the introduction of crofters duties legislation in 2010, the Commission has received 14 valid reports of suspected breaches of duties. Of these, eight related solely to non-residence, four to residency plus cultivation/maintenance, one to residency, cultivation/maintenance plus neglect and one to cultivation/maintenance plus misuse. All 14 cases have been investigated by the Commission. Please note that the reason for some of the above figures being lower than those provided on 9 March is that occasionally we receive reports that subsequently turn out to be invalid under the duties legislation. The most common reason for this is that the subject of the report turns out to be a landlord of a vacant croft, and not therefore subject to the duties legislation.
