Register of Crofts (ROC)

The ROC is a public list of crofts which contains basic information about the croft and the people associated with it.  Please note that some crofts are simply grazings shares that do not have in-bye croft land associated with them.  There are just over 20,500 crofts entered on the Commission’s Register of Crofts (ROC) of which around 72% are tenanted and the remainder are owned.

The ROC does not contain boundary information or maps for crofts as this is held by Registers of Scotland.

The information in our online ROC will be updated every 24 hours.  It is important to note however, that some changes do not take effect immediately due to timelines prescribed by Crofting Legislation and these would be explained in any relevant decision letter that has been issued.

If you consider any of the information is not correct please inform us by completing the appropriate form or contact us at  Alternatively you can write to us at the address in the footer below.

We are still experiencing a backlog of applications/enquiries, this is due partly to the high volume of correspondence received and some temporary staffing issues. Although we are making progress there may still be a delay in acknowledging receipt of your application/answering your enquiry. Be assured that you will hear from us in due course and we appreciate your patience in the meantime.

If you have sent us an enquiry, have you checked our website or ROC Online to see if the answer is there?
